Gospel Singer and Beauty queen Esther Wahome who is like a mother to us shared a very touching and encouraging story about her son who has a special need  of “Autism”.

For purposes of understanding this condition Autism is a disorder of neural development characterized by impaired social interactionand verbal and non-verbal communication, and by restricted, repetitive or stereotyped behavior.

According to research Parents usually notice signs in the first two years of their child’s life.[12] The signs usually develop gradually, but some autistic children first develop more normally and then regress.

Esther Wahome was not an exception in this case as she was later to find out that her new born baby had the condition of Autism.

Esther Wahome shared how hard it was for her to first accept about the condition she found her self in. She says theirs this perception by humans that when your child has autism people tend to think that you are be witched.

She says she would at first run to the bed room and cry because of the condition of her son. Although with time she came to understand what causes this condition and accepted.

This showed me how parents who find themselves in such a position don’t know how their going to pull themselves out of this.  The sad part is that most of them feel like neglecting the child or just give up in life.

“I later went to University and schools to find out how such persons who have that condition relate” Esther says. This was a life changing and encouraging moment as she found out that not all end up living a normal life and also some are married with children.

Esther said on Woman Without Limits hosted by Rev. Kathy Kiuna that the first thing to do is to find out what the problem is rather than assuming the condition.

She believes that we need not discriminate such children as they are like us and need to be treated like normal children only with special attention. She has come to reduce the hyper activity that comes with the type of food consumed which has helped tremendously in improving the condition of the Child.

Although there is no known cure, there have been reported cases of children who recovered. Not many children with autism live independently after reaching adulthood, though some become successful

I don’t have time to read everything right now, I found this site when looking for something else on Yahoo, but I’ve bookmarked your homepage and will check back soon to see the latest thoughts.
